My name is Kevin Girolametto. I’m a husband, proud father of three daughters, postal worker, and someone who has developed a tremendous passion for carp fishing.
I caught my first carp back in 2008, and little did I know at the time just how much that experience would change my life.
Over the years, carp fishing has become much more than a hobby. It’s one of the few places where I can truly slow down, disconnect from everyday distractions, and be present in the moment.
Whether I’m fishing alone, enjoying the peace and quiet, or spending a weekend on the bank with friends, sharing meals, stories, and plenty of laughs, there’s something about being near the water that I find difficult to put into words.
I’ve also had the opportunity to meet some incredible people through fishing. People from all walks of life who I may never have crossed paths with otherwise. Many of those connections have turned into friendships that I know will last a lifetime.
HOW THE MINDFUL ANGLER BEGAN
The Mindful Angler grew from my own experiences and a desire to share something that has made such a difference in my life.
I’ve always believed that fishing offers so much more than the excitement of catching a fish. It’s an opportunity to spend time outdoors, connect with nature, build relationships, and temporarily step away from the pressures of everyday life.
I wanted to create something that would encourage others to experience those same opportunities, while promoting mental well-being, responsible angling, and respect for our natural environment.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE THROUGH FISHING
What began as a personal passion has gradually grown into something I’m incredibly proud of.
Through The Mindful Angler, I’ve had the privilege of organizing fishing experiences for Canadian Armed Forces veterans through Soldier On, introducing schoolchildren to fishing, and spending some wonderful mornings with residents from a local retirement residence.
Each experience has been different, but they’ve all reinforced something I’ve believed for a long time: fishing isn’t always about catching fish.
Sometimes it’s about trying something new, sharing a conversation, enjoying a peaceful morning outdoors, or simply having something to look forward to.
Environmental stewardship is another important part of what I do. Through the Leave No Trace philosophy, I encourage others to respect wildlife, practice proper fish care, and leave our shorelines cleaner than we found them. I believe we all have a responsibility to protect the places we enjoy.
LOOKING AHEAD
My hope is to continue growing The Mindful Angler, reaching more people, building meaningful partnerships, and creating opportunities for others to experience the many benefits of spending time outdoors.
I’m also interested in exploring how fishing could become part of social prescribing initiatives, helping more people experience the benefits of spending time outdoors, connecting with nature, and enjoying meaningful experiences.
There’s still a lot I’d like to accomplish, but I’m grateful for the people who have supported this journey and the experiences we’ve shared along the way.
Slow Down. Connect. Be Present.
Testimonials

An amazing time
“Hey Kev G. Thanks for having me out today for a session. I had an amazing time learning from you. Thanks for showing me step by step on how to fish for carp properly and safely. That feeling reeling in the carp for my first time ever was such an incredible experience and I couldn’t have done it without your guidance. I hope to get out again soon with you! Also really loved seeing you pick up garbage that others had left in order to keep a clean environment. Thanks again!”

Above and beyond
“I had the privilege of having Kevin host a fishing experience for a person who I support with mental health challenges. Kevin's care and preparation were phenomenal. He was waiting for us when we arrived having stayed up the night prior to ensure that our day was successful, and most of all, fun. He taught us how to mix bait, set the hook, and cast. He broke down the fundamentals of carp fishing with so much enthusiasm. We spent the morning on the bank of the canal sharing stories. We enjoyed lunch together there. So many indelible memories. We are looking forward to future opportunities to book with The Mindful Angler, Kevin, once again. Cannot say enough about our day!”
